Joie de Martini

About me

I believe that we are all artists, and that it is our duty to create something beautiful before we depart from this dimension. I have no training in ‘belle arte’, I am a scientist. I have listened to my inner self and started experimenting with colours, acrylic paints primarily, to help me better express my emotions. My collection is about love, optimism, sometimes mixed feelings, vanity, nature, and everything human in essence.

Colorful abstract shapes and a piece of textured pink and purple material on a white background.

The story of the girl from Ipanema transposed on canvas through feminine shapes, vivid colours, straight lines and overlay composed of painted wrapping paper. Her spirit emerges from the vividness of the colours used and shapes.

“The girl from Ipanema”, August 2023. Acrylic paint, charcoal pencil and wrapping paper on stretched canvas.

“Silenced”, August 2023. Acrylic paint and duct tape on stretched canvas.

Abstract painting with red, white, blue, green, and black paint on a white canvas

Opposite to all my past works, this piece is quite aggressive and might not come easy for the viewer to assimilate, but it has a very strong message. It is about oppression all over the world against freedom of speech people face everyday. The duct tape I have used is stuck onto an invisible mouth and symbolises the silencing action itself. Oppression will never achieve its purpose, people’s hearts and mouths are too strong, ‘the mouth’ will continue bleeding outrage, unspoken words, unshared love.

Abstract painting with bold colors and flowing shapes, including red, blue, yellow, gray, and beige.

Colourful and vibrant, with suave curves and dots. Tribute to Picasso who was born in Malaga in 1881. Reminiscent of my most recent holiday, of days with infinite sun.

“Malaga sun”, August 2023. Acrylic paint on stretched canvas.

“Who messed up my lavender field?”, 2016. Acrylic on stretched canvas. 16 by 20 in.

One of my favourite works. It is a concept about destructive yet constructive force of creativity that has impact on something pre-existent. The work was very close to completion and aimed to carry your imagination to a lavender field, somewhere in Grasse, France, but then it was destructed in order to create a different texture, bold and a more dramatic landscape.

“Cherries in blossom”, 2016. Acrylic on stretched canvas. 24 by 30 in.

Imagine a warm, sunny spring day, light breeze, sitting in the shade of a cherry blossom. Isn’t it beautiful? The painting is about fragility in its purest form of strength and perfection. It is about new beginnings, soft colour palette, delicate texture, life and optimism.

“Playful”, 2015. Acrylic on paper. 10 by 14 in.

An explosion of colour and positive vibes, that carry your imagination far away to a hilly quiet village somewhere in sunny southern Italy on a Sunday afternoon.

Flawless, 2023. Acrylic on stretched canvas, 36 by 48 in.

Everyone strives for perfection even though we never reach it, so try to embrace imperfection as the new form of perfection. Let the energy flow, observe nature. Nature is perfectly imperfect.

Taken in 2021 on a sunny winter afternoon at home. Weak winter sun light reflects on the drinks cabinet. It is an analogy to Joie de vivre. Imagine New York’s vibe on a regular evening, dirty Martini cocktails and fine jazz, my definition of ‘joie de vivre’.

"Mixed feelings”, 2014. Acrylic on canvas paper. 10 by 12 in.

My first work. I started to experiment with colours, acrylic paints primarily on canvas paper in 2014. Emotionally challenging time in my life that is reflected by the blurred demarcations between strong earthy colours, yet with good balance between light and dark elements.
